Eight more children died from measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Saturday, raising the total number of measles-related deaths to 583 since March 15, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest fatalities were classified as suspected measles-related deaths. Of the eight deaths, three were reported from the Dhaka Division, the highest among all divisions, the DGHS said.
With the new deaths, the total number of suspected measles-related fatalities has climbed to 493, while the number of laboratory-confirmed measles deaths remains unchanged at 90.
The DGHS reported 1,033 new suspected measles cases during the same period, bringing the cumulative number of suspected infections to 69,612.
A further 53 cases were confirmed through testing in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed measles infections to 8,996.
Since the outbreak began on March 15, a total of 55,705 suspected measles patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country. Among them, 52,050 have recovered, according to official data.
