Three more children died from measles-like symptoms across the country in the 24 hours till 8:00 AM on Monday, raising the total death toll from the disease to 588 since March 15 this year.
According to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest casualties have been classified as suspected cases. With these new fatalities, the total number of suspected measles deaths in the country has climbed to 498, while the number of laboratory-confirmed deaths stands at 90.
The health authorities also recorded 1,134 new suspected measles cases during the same 24-hour period, pushing the overall tally of suspected infections to 72,070.
Concurrently, 45 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 9,094.
DGHS statistics further revealed that a total of 57,902 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised since the outbreak began on March 15. Among them, 53,722 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from various hospitals across the country, while the rest continue to receive treatment.
