7 more deaths push measles toll past 600

The number of deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh has surpassed 600, after seven more children died in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The latest report released on Wednesday said six of the deceased children were from Dhaka Division, while one was from Mymensingh Division.

Since March 15, a total of 601 deaths have been recorded during the ongoing outbreak. Of them, 511 children died with measles symptoms, while laboratory tests confirmed measles infection in 90 fatalities.

The report also said that 1,210 new cases with measles symptoms were reported across the country in the last 24 hours. Since the outbreak began, the total number of suspected cases has risen to 74,572.

Meanwhile, 55 new measles infections were confirmed through testing during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 9,191 nationwide.

According to DGHS data, 60,158 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals since March 15. Among them, 55,942 have recovered and been discharged.
