Siddika Sultana, Executive Director (ED) of the Environment and Social Development Organization (ESDO), has been elected to the Steering Committee of the International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN) for the 2026-2029 term, marking a significant milestone in global environmental leadership.
The election was confirmed at the 2026 General Assembly of IPEN, where members from around the world voted to approve the new Steering Committee.
Sultana was selected from the South Asian region to serve on the influential global body, reflecting international recognition of Bangladesh's role in environmental protection, chemical safety and pollution prevention, according to a press release.
Her election highlights both her longstanding contributions to environmental advocacy and Bangladesh's growing presence in global environmental governance.
The newly elected Steering Committee comprises environmental leaders and experts from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and the Caribbean.
IPEN is a global network of more than 600 public-interest organisations working in over 125 countries. Established in 1998, the network promotes safe chemicals policies, the elimination of toxic substances, the protection of human health and the advancement of environmental justice.
