Religious Affairs Minister undergoes hip replacement

Religious Affairs Minister and veteran politician Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad has undergone successful hip replacement surgery at Singapore General Hospital, according to his family.

Kaikobad, a six time Member of Parliament from Muradnagar in Comilla, underwent the operation on Thursday afternoon under the supervision of a medical team led by orthopaedic specialist Dr Daren Tai Keng Jin.

His younger brother, Kazi Shah Arefin, said the minister had been suffering from a longstanding problem with his left hip.

"Following the advice of doctors, his hip replacement surgery was performed today," Arefin said, adding that the operation was successful.

He said the minister would remain under observation for two hours following the procedure.

Family members have requested the people of the country to pray for Kaikobad's speedy and complete recovery.
