Search on for new ACC leadership

The government has initiated the process of forming a search committee to recommend appointments to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), paving the way for the appointment of a new commission after more than three months of vacancy.

According to ACC and Cabinet Division sources, letters have been sent to the Chief Justice seeking the nomination of one judge each from the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, as required by law. A separate communication has also been sent to the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The move follows the resignation of ACC Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen and commissioners Mian Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (Retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid on March 3, leaving the constitutional watchdog without a commission.

The development was disclosed in a recent letter issued by the District Magistrates Policy Branch of the Cabinet Division and signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Ariful Haque Mridul. The letter requested the Registrar General of the Supreme Court to take necessary steps for nominating judges to the selection committee.
