A man injured in a gas cylinder explosion at his residence in the capital’s Uttarkhan area has died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Sunday. Two other members of his family remain in critical condition in the ICU.

The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain, 50. He succumbed to his injuries at around 6:30AM while receiving treatment at the hospital’s High Dependency Unit (HDU), said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident doctor of the institute.

According to doctors, Ali Hossain had suffered 100 percent burn injuries along with inhalation trauma, which proved fatal despite intensive care.

His wife, Hasna Hena, and their daughter, Akhi Akter, 30, who were also injured in the explosion, are currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the burn institute.

The incident occurred around 7:30AM on Saturday when a gas cylinder explosion rocked the kitchen of their residence at Uttarkhan, Dhaka. Preliminary reports suggest that leaked gas triggered the blast, causing severe burn injuries to the three family members.
