The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed a High Court verdict directing the government to establish an independent secretariat for the Supreme Court within three months.

The apex court also fixed June 16 for hearing an appeal filed by the state challenging the HC judgment.

A full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, passed the order following a petition filed by the state seeking a stay on the HC verdict.

Attorney General Ruhul Quddus Kazal represented the state during the hearing, while Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir appeared for the opposing side.

Earlier in the morning on Tuesday, the hearing of the appeal against the High Court's full judgment, which directed the establishment of a separate Supreme Court Secretariat within three months, began.

On May 21, the Attorney General’s Office filed the appeal on behalf of the state, challenging the HC judgment.
