Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized various smuggled goods worth over Taka 177.78 crore in different drives on the border areas and other parts of the country in May.
A BGB press release on Wednesday said, during the drives, the force arrested 188 alleged smugglers of contraband goods.
The force also detained 92 Bangladeshi nationals, six Indian nationals and 392 Myanmar nationals for trespassing the border illegally. Legal action was taken against them.
The seized items include 3.648 kg of gold, 4.1 kg of silver, 11,419 sarees, 2,831 pieces of three-piece suits, shirt pieces, bed sheets and blankets, 9,368 garments, 4,514 metres of cloth, 128,928 cosmetic items, 37,154 pieces of imitation jewellery and 3,999,797 fireworks, the release said.
The BGB release said the recovered goods also included 6,017 cubic feet timber, 7,007 kg tea, 65,700 razor blades, 3,310 kg betel nuts, 25,860 kg coal, 3,465 cubic feet stones, 170 cubic feet sand, 405 mobile phones, 2,940 mobile displays, 56,148 mobile phone parts, 36,411 electronic items, 13,053 pairs of spectacles, 96,402 kg cumin, 23,451 kg sugar, 2,007,869 packets food items, 4,691 kg garlic, 597 kg fertiliser, 228 litres fuel and lubricants, 2,642 packets pesticides and 289,508 pieces of chocolates.
The border force also seized 745 cattle heads, and buffaloes, two trucks/covered vans, four Mahindra vehicles, 11 pickup vans, four private cars/buses, 13 trolleys/microbuses, 40 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, easy bikes and 48 motorcycles and 17 bicycles/vans.
BGB force recovered one pistol, one rifle, two magazines, 258 rounds of ammunition, one rocket launcher and two other weapons during the drives.
The release said BGB also seized a large quantities of narcotics last month, including 1,649,952 Yaba tablets, 3.883 kg crystal meth (Ice), 260 grams cocaine, 337 grams heroin, 2,807 bottles phensedyl, 8,605 bottles foreign liquor, 268 litres local liquor, 2,037 cans of beer and 1,752 kg cannabis.
