A Dhaka court on Wednesday acquitted cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima Sultana Tammi in a case filed over allegations of enticing away another man’s wife, adultery and defamation.
The verdict was delivered by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jeshita Islam. Both Nasir and Tamima were present in court during the pronouncement.
In its judgment, the court said the allegations brought under various sections of the Penal Code were not proven beyond reasonable doubt and therefore acquitted the accused.
The case was filed on February 24, 2021, by Tamima’s former husband, Rakib Hasan, following widespread circulation of photos of Nasir and Tamima’s marriage on social media.
Rakib alleged that Tamima married Nasir while her marriage with him was still legally valid, claiming the relationship caused him and their daughter mental distress and damaged his reputation.
