Bangladesh’s proposed national budget for FY2026"27 offers a steady and practical path through a challenging economic period, according to the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham), which has welcomed the budget as a balanced effort to protect stability while supporting growth and investment.

AmCham said the government has taken a sensible approach by focusing on controlling inflation, sustaining economic growth and maintaining fiscal discipline at a time when the economy continues to face both domestic and global pressures. The proposed fiscal deficit of around 3.55 percent of GDP was described as broadly prudent, reflecting an attempt to keep public finances under control without slowing development activities.

At the same time, the chamber expressed concern over the budget’s strong dependence on domestic borrowing. It warned that excessive borrowing from local sources could reduce the availability of credit for businesses and increase borrowing costs for the private sector, potentially affecting investment and expansion plans.
