Defence budget rises

The government has proposed Tk42,497.45 crore for the Ministry of Defence in the FY2026ïŋ―"27 national budget, marking an increase of about Tk1,835.67 crore from the revised FY2025ïŋ―"26 allocation of Tk40,661.78 crore.

A review of recent fiscal years shows a steady rise in defence spending: Tk38,174 crore in FY2023-24, Tk39,415 crore in FY2024-25, Tk40,661 crore in FY2025-26, and now the proposed Tk42,497 crore for FY2026-27.

For the upcoming fiscal year, Tk40,886.29 crore has been allocated for operating expenditure and Tk1,611.16 crore for development expenditure. The funds will support armed forces operations, training, UN peacekeeping missions, disaster response, and assistance to civil administration during national emergencies.
