North South University (NSU) has issued a rejoinder to the reports published in the Daily Observer on June 23, 24 and 25.
Following is the full rejoinder: North South University (NSU) authority has taken note of a three-part series report published in the reputed English newspaper of the country, The Daily Observer, on 23, 24, and 25 June 2026, titled "Once an icon NSU, now a sanctuary for corruption, sex scandals, militancy." The reports contain misleading, exaggerated, and outdated information that does not reflect the current reality. The university formally registers its strong protest against the publication.
The reports appear to have been deliberately designed to tarnish the reputation of one of the country's leading private universities by presenting distorted and outdated claims in which NSU's position has not been adequately reflected. Part 1 of the series report quotes Mr. Aziz Al Kaiser, Chairman of the NSU Board of Trustees. It must be clarified that Mr. Kaiser has not made any such comments or responded in any manner to any reporter of The Daily Observer in recent times. Most of the issues highlighted in the series report, misleadingly and exaggeratedly, have already been resolved through due process by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education and are therefore no longer relevant. Some matters remain sub judice; in respect of the judiciary, NSU refrains from commenting on those issues.
The university is, however, fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation directed by UGC concerning a member of the Board of Trustees. At the same time, NSU firmly reiterates its zero- tolerance policy against all forms of harassment on campus.
OUR COMMENTS
The Daily Observer reserves the right to publish any news on any institution including NSU objectively with proper facts and information. In publishing the said reports on NSU the Daily Observer followed the objective reporting.
NSU rejoinder did not refute the facts, information, remarks made in the said reports of the Daily Observer. We have proper documents and information from UGC, intelligence agencies and other sources to defend our reports. If necessary we are ready to divulge those facts, information and remarks in future reports. The rejoinder said most of the issues highlighted in the reports have been resolved through due process by UGC and Ministry of Education. But we have documents that many issues with NSU and Education Ministry are still under investigation.
In NSU rejoinder, signed by Syed Mansur Hashim, Director Public Relation, it is said the reports quoted Mr. Aziz Al Kaiser, NSU Chairman. The NSU rejoinder is wrong. In fact The Daily Observer reports did not claim that Mr. Kaiser made any remarks or comments to Observer reporter.
The rejoinder failed to specifically refute which part or information of our reports are misleading, exaggerated and outdated. NSU has a right to protest, similarly the Daily Observer has the right to defend its objective reporting. We have no intention to deliberately tarnish the reputation of NSU. In fact the said reports revealed some of the facts, information and comments regarding the irregularities, corruption scandals and violation of rules and laws in NSU. The reports also reflected the frustration and allegations of academics, guardians, students and well wishers of NSU.
