Budget boost lifts stock market

Bangladesh's stock market posted a strong rebound on Sunday, the first trading day after the proposed national budget for FY2026-27 was unveiled, with key indices surging and trading turnover rising significantly.

Market analysts attributed the positive momentum to several capital market-friendly measures and tax reforms proposed in the Tk 9.38 trillion budget, which helped boost investor confidence and buying pressure.

At the close of trading, the benchmark DSEX index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) gained 104 points to settle at 5,625. The DSE Shariah Index rose 14 points to 1,129, while the DS30 Index advanced 46 points to 2,119.

A total of 246 issues advanced against 96 decliners, while 50 remained unchanged. Banking, financial and insurance sector stocks led the market rally.

Turnover on the DSE increased to Tk 1,358.47 crore, up from Tk 1,238.66 crore in the previous session.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also witnessed a strong performance, with its CASPI index rising 147 points. Of the 248 traded issues, 141 gained, 71 declined and 36 remained unchanged. However, turnover at the bourse fell to Tk 24.21 crore from Tk 34.33 crore in the previous session.
