Students and interns of Ad-din Women's Medical College will have to continue their clinical training at other hospitals following the cancellation of the licence of the hospital implicated in the deaths of six newborns, health authorities said on Sunday.

Professor Dr Rubina Yasmin, Additional Director General (Medical Education) of the Directorate General of Medical Education, said a directive in this regard may be issued to the medical college by the end of Sunday.

According to officials, although the hospital's licence has been revoked, the medical college will continue its academic activities. To ensure uninterrupted clinical training, the college must sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a general hospital where students can receive practical training and interns can complete their mandatory one-year internship.

Under the Private Medical College and Dental College Act, 2022, a private medical college is required to have an affiliated teaching hospital. In line with the MBBS curriculum, students begin hands-on hospital training from the third year, while internship training is compulsory after graduation.

The college authorities will be responsible for arranging transportation and coordinating training activities at the affiliated hospital, officials added.
