Inter-university carrom competition begins at NU

Gazipur, June 20: National University has organised an inter-university carrom competition. The Bangladesh Inter-University Sports Association is providing overall support in this organization. 18 universities of the country are participating in the competition. A total of eight players from each university, four in the men's and four in the women's categories, are competing in it.

The three-day competition was inaugurated by NationalUniversityVice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah at the National University campus on Friday. During the event, he hoisted the national flag and released balloons and pigeons.

National University Pro Vice-Chancellor and Inter-University Carrom Competition Steering Committee Chairman Professor Md. Lutfar Rahman presided over the inaugural ceremony. The program was presented by Mohammad Shafiul Karim, Director of the Department of Physical Education and Culture of the National University and Member Secretary of the Inter-University Carrom Competition Steering Committee.

Professor Amanullah said that through sports competitions, good citizens can be created and a society free from terrorism and drugs can be built. For this reason, the current government is giving importance to sports and culture, which is also in their election manifesto.

He said, "The National University has taken various initiatives to keep the students of the colleges affiliated to the National University focused on their studies through sports and various cultural programs. The National University authorities will do whatever is necessary for the mental well-being of the students."

He also said that all the students who become champions and runners-up in various sports events will be assisted in receiving training in the country and abroad if necessary. 

There are a large number of girls among the students. Therefore, it is necessary to involve them in sports and cultural activities.

The three-day "Inter-University Carrom Competition 2025-2026" will conclude next Sunday.
