PM Tarique's visit to boost ties: China

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun on Monday said Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to China will provide an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Guo said the visit would help both sides work with the new government to enhance strategic communication, advance traditional friendship, deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and boost high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and boost coordination on multilateral affairs.

He said the discussions are expected to promote the China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new heights.

Responding to media queries regarding the visit, the spokesperson confirmed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is visiting China from 24 to 26 June at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

Guo noted that this will be the Prime Minister's first official visit to China since assuming office. During the visit, Chinese leaders will hold meetings and talks with him, where both sides will exchange in-depth views on bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.

According to the spokesperson, the engagements are expected to set the direction for the future development of relations between the two countries.

He further said that China and Bangladesh are long-standing friendly neighbours and comprehensive strategic cooperative partners. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of leaders of both countries, bilateral relations have continued to progress steadily.

He added that political mutual trust between the two sides has deepened, while practical cooperation has produced fruitful results across various sectors, delivering tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
