4.0 magnitude earthquake jolts Dhaka

A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale was felt in Dhaka and several other parts of the country on Monday night.

The tremor was recorded at around 9:28:54 PM, according to the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) also confirmed the earthquake.

An acting officer of the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, said the quake had a magnitude of 4.0 and its epicentre was in Rupganj, Narayanganj.

No immediate reports of damage or casualties were received following the tremor.

Earlier on June 12, a mild earthquake was felt in several parts of the country, including Sylhet and Mymensingh. That quake measured 4.5 on the Richter scale.
