A total of 44 leaders and activists of banned Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations were arrested in the last 24 hours in separate drives conducted by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in different areas of the capital.
These arrests were made as part of ongoing operations, said Niaz Mehdi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of DMP, on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the arrestees include three from Mirpur-Darussalam Police Station, two each from Ramna, Tejgaon, Tejgaon Industrial Area, and Vatara Police Stations, and one each from Dhanmondi, Shahbagh, Hazaribagh, Bangshal, Sutrapur, Kadamtali, Sabujbagh, Pallabi, Kafrul, Turag, Uttara West, and Airport Police Stations.
DMP sources said the operation was carried out as part of efforts to maintain public safety and ensure law and order in the capital.
The DMP official added that such drives would continue in the coming days to uphold security and prevent any activities that could disrupt public order.
Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are currently underway, the official maintained.
