The police authorities in Italy claimed that they identified the prime suspect in the murders of three members of a Bangladeshi family in Rome and released a photo of the suspect.

The suspect is identified as Shahadat Hossain (43), who also hails from Bangladesh.

The Rome prosecutor’s office ordered the photo be made public on Saturday afternoon local time, hours after a Bangladeshi couple and their 5-year-old daughter were stabbed to death inside their apartment in the Italian capital, reports bdnews24.com.

The couple’s son, however, survived after fleeing the attack.

Anyone with any clues or useful information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest is requested to call the Rome police mobile squad on 3346903295, Italian police urged in a Facebook post.

The dead are Kamal Uddin Babul, 39, his wife Arju Akhtar, 38 and their daughter Arwa Islam Arisha. Their 20-year-old son Ayan, identified with a single name, was rescued in a seriously injured condition and admitted to a local hospital.

Babul was originally from Noakhali’s Companiganj Upazila.

Relatives said a letter from an alleged robbery gang called “Lal Bahini” was found at the gate of the house of Babul’s father Sirajul Islam on the night of July 2, 2025.

The robbers demanded gold jewellery and money from the family, threatening to kill Sirajul’s son and grandson, and torture the female members of the family if their demands were unfulfilled.

Companiganj Police chief Nurul Hakim said they had “verbally” reported the matter at that time.

“We’ve regularly provided security to the family. However, we’ve learnt about the murder of three people in Italy today [Saturday],” Officer Hakim added.
