India is “closely monitoring” Bangladesh's progress on the proposed Teesta River project and plans to purchase Chinese J-10 fighter aircraft, ANI has reported.

On Friday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) reaffirmed that its development cooperation with Dhaka is guided by a “mutually agreed roadmap”.

At a weekly media briefing in New Delhi on Friday, Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India had already conveyed its position on the Teesta River Comprehensive Management and Restoration Project to Bangladesh.

He said New Delhi would take all related developments into account in shaping its overall approach to the issue, according to the Indian news agency.

Jaiswal also responded to a question regarding China's reported commitment to support the Teesta River development project during the visit.

He said India's development cooperation with Bangladesh is guided by a mutually agreed roadmap that is reviewed regularly.

"Our developmental assistance for projects in Bangladesh is based on a mutually agreed roadmap which is regularly reviewed," he said.

Referring to the Teesta project, Jaiswal said India had already conveyed its position to Bangladesh.

"Our views on the Teesta river project have been previously conveyed to the Bangladesh side," he said, adding that India would "factor in all the related developments in our overall approach to Bangladesh."    "bdews24
