The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 480 people and filed 60 cases during its regular operations across the capital over the past 24 hours.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Saturday by DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehdi.
According to the statement, those arrested include 47 from the Ramna Division, 25 from the Lalbagh Division, 58 from the Wari Division, 46 from the Motijheel Division, 84 from the Tejgaon Division, 116 from the Mirpur Division, 47 from the Gulshan Division, 50 from the Uttara Division, five by the Detective Branch (DB), and two by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
During the drives, police also seized 7.488 kg of cannabis, 6,746 yaba tablets, 3 grams of heroin, five bottles of Phensedyl, one private car, one ambulance, one motorcycle, five mobile phones, one vanity bag, and Tk 123,900 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway.
Meanwhile, the Airport Police have arrested 82 people in a drive to stop the menace of vagrants, beggars and drug addicts in the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) area of the capital.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Saturday by DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehdi.
According to the statement, the drive was conducted from around 5:00 am on Saturday in the airport roundabout, BRTA station, Airport railway station area, around the police box, airport entrance, VVIP and VIP roads and surrounding areas. A total of 82 people, including 58 drug-addicted street children and 24 people involved in other crimes, were arrested in the drive.
According to Airport Police sources, vagrants, beggars and drug addicts will not be allowed to stay in this area under any circumstances. Currently, police patrolling is ongoing and the law and order situation is normal.
