A general diary (GD) has been filed with Shahbagh Police Station against actors Meher Afroz Shawon, Mahia Mahi and Shanta Farzana over allegations of mocking the July uprising and disrespecting its memorial through social media posts.

The GD was lodged on Friday by a platform named Rashtra Sanglap Forum, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Moniruzzaman said on Saturday.

He said the allegations relate to social media posts and public comments about the July uprising. The complaint has been forwarded to the Cyber Unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) for investigation.

According to the complaint, Shanta Farzana shared a video showing a shoe being thrown at the July Memorial, which the complainants described as an act of disrespect towards those killed during the movement.

The complaint also alleges that Meher Afroz Shawon posted videos describing the July uprising as a staged event and made remarks insulting the movement.

Mahia Mahi is accused of posting comments on social media that allegedly mocked participants in the uprising by comparing them to actors.

The complainants sought legal action after investigating the statements and social media content.

DMP Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Md Shafiqul Islam said the Detective Branch had not yet received the complaint.

"Once we receive the documents, we will investigate the matter and take necessary action in accordance with the law," he said.
