The government is considering implementing the proposed ninth national pay scale in a single phase instead of two due to concerns over technical complications in the iBAS++ online payroll system.
A high-level meeting, chaired by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, is scheduled to be held at the Secretariat on Monday to discuss the issue.

The committee reviewing the recommendations of the National Pay Commission will assess the capability of the iBAS++ system before finalising its proposals to the government.

The government had initially planned to introduce the revised basic pay in two phases. However, officials fear the phased approach could create technical difficulties in salary calculation and adjustment through the iBAS++ system, prompting consideration of a one-time implementation.

The government aims to make the revised basic pay effective from July 1, while allowances may be introduced in a second phase during the 2027-28 fiscal year.

Under the existing eighth national pay scale, the minimum basic salary is Tk 8,250 and the maximum is Tk 78,000. The National Pay Commission has recommended raising these to Tk 20,000 and Tk 160,000 respectively.
