Water level of the Teesta River, which rose due to continuous heavy rainfall and upstream inflows, has receded to 16 centimetres below the danger level at Dalia Barrage.

At 3:00pm on Friday, the water level at the Dalia Barrage point, located between Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat and Dimla upazila of Nilphamari, was recorded at 51.99 metres.

At the same point, the river was flowing 1 centimetre above the danger level, at 52.16 metres, at 8:00 pm on Thursday.

The sudden rise in water submerged some low-lying areas. However, the water has receded and floodwater has drained from those areas. Thus, there is no immediate flood threat in Dimla upazila.

Rabiul Islam Shahin, chairman of Tepakharibari Union Parishad, said water entered low-lying areas on Thursday night, but the situation has returned to normal as the river receded. No families in his union are currently stranded.

Abdul Latif, chairman of Purba Chhatnai Union Parishad, said the water level increased slightly on Thursday evening but started falling on Friday morning. The situation became normal by the afternoon, and no families were stranded.

Executive Engineer of the Dalia office of the Bangladesh Water Development Board Amitabh Chowdhury said the Teesta was flowing 10 centimetres below the danger level at 9:00 am on Friday. It fell to 16 centimetres below the danger level at noon and remained at the same level at 3:00 pm.
