Four workers suffered burn injuries in a gas explosion while allegedly installing an illegal gas connection in Fatullah, Narayanganj, early Monday.

The incident occurred around 12:30am at a house in Chitashal No. 1 Road under Kutubpur Union. One of the injured, Ariful Islam, 35, sustained critical injuries and was admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka with 65 per cent burns, while the three others received primary treatment locally.

According to sanitary engineer Abdul Jalil, the house owner had agreed to pay Tk 17,000 for an illegal Titas gas connection and had paid Tk 2,000 in advance. Jalil said he contacted a local gas contractor, who sent workers to carry out the connection at night.

He said the explosion occurred while the workers were excavating the ground and connecting the gas pipeline, leaving four people injured.

Officer-in-Charge of Fatullah Model Police Station Mahbub Alam said police visited the scene and the matter is under investigation.
