Bahrain sentences 3 to life imprisonment for spying for Iran

Three individuals were rewarded life imprisonment due to the charges of spying for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The verdict was confirmed on Tuesday.

 

The trio was found guilty of collaborating with the IRGC and its affiliates to facilitate ‘hostile and terrorist activities’ against Bahrain.

The Public Prosecution Office of Bahrain stated that the defendants were convicted for coordinating with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to carry out actions detrimental to the nation's interests. Each of the three defendants received a life sentence.

Since the escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel, Gulf nations have intensified efforts to dismantle networks suspected of having links to Iran. 

Bahrain has recently adopted a strict stance against those suspected of expressing support or sympathy for Iranian interests. Officials maintain that these measures are essential for safeguarding national security.

Bahrain is governed by a Sunni Muslim monarchy. However, a significant portion of the population belongs to the Shia Muslim community, which has long alleged political and social discrimination.
