The latest flood situation report by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief stated that death toll from recent floods, heavy rains, onrushing hill torrents and landslide across seven districts has risen to 58 and more than 1.2 million people have been affected.
The affected districts are Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.
The ministry stated that 52,493 families currently remain waterlogged. The total number of affected individuals has reached 1,216,805. Emergency relief operations are underway to support the victims in the affected areas.
According to the ministry, Cox's Bazar recorded the highest number of fatalities with 32 deaths, including 19 local residents and 13 Rohingya refugees. Meanwhile, 15 people died in Chattogram, seven in Bandarban, three in Rangamati, and one in Moulvibazar.
The disasters have also left 40 people injured. Among the injured, 25 are from Cox's Bazar (20 locals and five Rohingyas), 12 from Chattogram, two from Bandarban, and one from Khagrachhari.
Adequate relief materials have been allocated, and distribution activities are ongoing to tackle the situation.
