Sitakunda road accident leaves 1 dead, 6 injured

A person was killed and six others were injured after a passenger bus overturned on the highway in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Sunday. 

The accident took place around 8:30AM in front of Iliyas Pump in Chhoto kumira Banshbaria area under the upazila.

According to police and local sources, a passenger bus named ‘Jonaki Paribahan’ overturned on the highway as the driver lost control. Several passengers were critically injured in the accident. Of them, seven injured were rescued and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

The on-duty doctor at CMCH Ward-2 declared one passenger, aged about 30, dead. But his identity is yet to be confirmed.

The injured Rowshan Akhter, 38, Mohiuddin, 33, Mohammad Mannan, 30, Sonia Akhter, 25, Arpita Saha, 20, and Arif Md. Yusuf, 51, are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

CMCH Police Outpost in-charge Nurul Alam Ashek confirmed the accident and said; ‘Jonaki Paribahan’ bus was overturned in Chhoto Kumira area. Seven seriously injured were rushed to the hospital; one of them was declared dead. 

Efforts are underway to identify the deceased, the police official added.
