1 dead, 10 injured in Manikganj highway bus crash

A person was killed and at least 10 were injured as a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Shibaloy upazila of Manikganj district.

The accident took place around 8:00AM on Sunday (July 19) in Barangail bus stand area on Dhaka-Aricha highway.

Barangail Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Harun Or Rashid confirmed the matter.

The deceased was identified as Delwar Hossain, 50. Locals confirmed him dead while undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. They rescued the injured passengers and admitted them to different hospitals in the district and upazila.

According to eyewitnesses, the Dhaka bound ‘Selfie Paribahan’ bus lost control due to a tyre burst and over speeding while overtaking another bus. It then plunged into a canal between two bridges. 

OC Harun ur Rashid said the front tyre of the Dhaka-bound Selfie Paribahan bus burst on the highway. The driver lost control and the vehicle fell into the roadside canal.

At least 10-12 passengers were injured in the accident. One passenger died after being taken to the hospital, the OC added.

Efforts are underway to salvage the damaged bus, and legal procedures are ongoing regarding the incident, the police official concluded.
