Milestone to honor crash victims

Milestone School and College will observe the first anniversary of the tragic Bangladesh Air Force fighter jet crash that struck its Uttara Diabari campus with a two-day programme on July 20 and 21, aiming to pay tribute to those killed and express solidarity with the injured.

According to a notice issued by the institution, the Bangladesh Air Force's F-7 BGI fighter aircraft crashed into the Haydar Ali Academic Building of Milestone School and College during a routine training mission on July 21, 2025. The crash claimed the lives of 35 people, including 28 students, three guardians, three teachers and one office assistant. The institution said many of those injured in the incident are still undergoing recovery and have not been able to return to normal life.

As part of the observance, a Doa Mahfil will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 20, at the Diabari campus with the participation of students, teachers, officials and staff from all Bangla and English version branches of Milestone School and College. Alumni and former teachers from different parts of the country will also be able to participate virtually through an online platform.

On Tuesday, July 21, all branches of Milestone School and College will remain closed to mark the day. The day's programme will include hoisting the national flag at half-mast, laying wreaths, a guard of honour, observing one minute of silence in memory of the victims and holding a special prayer ceremony in the presence of students, teachers and guardians.

The main commemorative events will take place at the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara Diabari, where the accident occurred. The programme will be held in two sessions, beginning at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, according to the notice issued by the institution.
