Teesta water level rising due to upstream surge and heavy rain

Due to the upstream surge and heavy rain, the water level of the Teesta River has risen again and is flowing 5 centimeters below the danger level. The Water Development Board (PAUBO) said that 44 sluice gates of the Teesta Barrage have been opened due to the increase in water pressure.  

At 8 am on Monday (July 20), the water level of the Teesta River at Dalia Point in Dimlar, Nilphamari was recorded at 52.10 centimeters (danger level 52.15 meters), which is flowing 5 centimeters below the danger level.

The Teesta water level may rise and flood the low-lying areas of Purba Chatnai, Khagakhribari, Tepakhakribari, Khalisa Chapani, Jhunagach Chapani, Gayabari in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari and Golmunda, Dauabari and Shaulmari unions in Jaldhaka upazila.

Dalia Water Development Board Executive Engineer Amitabh Choudhury told Dhaka Post that the water level of the Teesta River has risen and is flowing 5 centimeters below the danger level at 8 am. There is a possibility of the water level rising further, and 44 sluice gates have been opened at the barrage to control the situation.
