Commerce Minister urges Thai investors to invest more in Bangladesh

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir on Thursday called on Thai businesses and investors to expand their investment in Bangladesh, expressing optimism that stronger trade and investment ties would take bilateral economic cooperation to a new level.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the three-day international trade exhibition "Top Thai Brands 2026" at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Thitiporn Chirasawadi, officials of the Royal Thai Embassy, representatives of participating Thai companies, business leaders and entrepreneurs attended the event.

The commerce minister said Bangladesh and Thailand enjoy a longstanding relationship based on mutual trust, respect and cooperation, with growing collaboration in trade, investment, tourism, culture and regional affairs.

Describing Thailand as one of Bangladesh's key trading partners, he said there remains significant untapped potential to further expand bilateral trade and investment.

Khandaker Abdul Muktadir highlighted Bangladesh's strategic location, large consumer market, skilled workforce and investment-friendly policies, inviting Thai investment in sectors such as agro-processing, tourism, leather, ready-made garments, automobile components and rubber products.

The exhibition, organised by Thailand's Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under the Ministry of Commerce, with support from the Royal Thai Embassy's Commercial Office in Dhaka, features 57 Thai companies. The fair will continue until July 25 and remain open to visitors daily from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
