Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Friday said it foiled an alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push eight people into Bangladesh through the Joypur Border Outpost (BOP) area in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia.

According to BGB, the incident took place at around 5:10am near border pillar 152/1-S under the jurisdiction of Joypur BOP of the 47 BGB Battalion.

The force alleged that members of the BSF's Char Meghna Camp under the 146 BSF Battalion attempted to send eight unidentified individuals, two men, four women and two transgender persons across the river into Bangladesh by swimming.

A BGB patrol detected the attempt and prevented the group from entering Bangladesh. Facing resistance from BGB personnel, the individuals reportedly returned to the Indian side through the river, thwarting the alleged push-in attempt.

BGB said it remains on high alert to prevent illegal border crossings and any violations of border laws, adding that it continues to maintain security and law and order along the frontier with professionalism and vigilance.
