The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is considering major changes to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), including postponing the next edition or replacing the tournament with a new franchise competition, according to local media reports.

Board officials are reportedly concerned about the league’s long-running issues, including unpaid player salaries, disputes with franchises, allegations of spot-fixing and repeated criticism over its management. Some directors believe the tournament should not return until these problems are resolved.

One proposal under discussion is to skip this year’s BPL and instead stage a domestic T20 competition, while another suggests retiring the BPL brand altogether and launching a new franchise league under a different name.

However, BPL Governing Council Chairman Fahim Sinha said efforts are ongoing to organize the tournament with stronger franchises. He added that if suitable franchises cannot be secured, the board may consider taking a one-season break. No final decision has been announced.
