Third family member dies after rip current tragedy

A British-Bangladeshi family holiday in the UK has ended in tragedy after a seven-year-old boy died days after being caught in a powerful rip current off the Essex coast.

Musa Ahmed passed away in hospital on Tuesday, six days after the July 22 incident, raising the death toll to three, family members confirmed.

Earlier, Musa’s aunt, 41-year-old schoolteacher Shelina Rahman, and her 15-year-old daughter, Samiha Rahman, also died after being swept away by the strong current.

According to Musa’s father, Shahin Ahmed, six family members�"three adults and three children�"were pulled into the sea while swimming. Although all were rescued from the water, three later succumbed to their injuries.

The family has questioned safety measures at the beach, alleging that warning signs about dangerous rip currents were inadequate and that no coastguard personnel were on site when the incident occurred. They also claimed emergency responders arrived about 20 minutes later, while local residents rushed in to help.

The family expressed gratitude to local resident Craig Bower, who risked his own life in an attempt to rescue those caught in the water.
