BRAC Bank has introduced Bangla QR at BRAC University to enable cashless transactions across the campus, marking a major step towards supporting Bangladesh Bank’s “Cashless Bangladesh” initiative.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Md. Mostaqur Rahman FCMA inaugurated the initiative at a ceremony held at BRAC University’s campus in Merul Badda, Dhaka, on Thursday.

BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, PhD, Bangladesh Bank officials, BRAC Bank Managing Director and CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, along with students and faculty members, attended the event.

Under the initiative, students and other campus users will be able to make payments for tuition fees, academic services, cafeteria purchases, retail transactions and other daily expenses through Bangla QR and other digital banking channels.

During the event, the Bangladesh Bank governor held an interactive session with students and answered their questions about Bangla QR, digital payments and the central bank’s efforts to promote a cashless economy.

Bangla QR is Bangladesh’s interoperable QR payment platform that enables customers of banks and mobile financial service providers to make instant payments using a single QR code, regardless of their service provider.

Speaking at the event, BRAC Bank CEO Tareq Refat Ullah Khan said the initiative would make everyday transactions simpler, faster and more secure, while supporting Bangladesh Bank’s vision of building a cashless economy through innovative digital payment solutions.

BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar said Bangla QR is an important step towards creating a digitally inclusive society. He, however, stressed the need to ensure wider access to internet connectivity and smart devices to achieve true digital inclusion.

The programme was organized with assistance from the university’s Finance and Accounting Club (FINACT).

BRAC Bank said the launch reflects its continued focus on digital banking innovation and highlights collaboration between public and private sectors in accelerating Bangladesh’s transition towards a modern and inclusive cashless economy.
