DSCC ‘s monthly Cleaning Day held

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Saturday observed its monthly ‘Cleaning Day’ across all 75 wards, accompanied by a waste awareness rally aimed at promoting proper waste management and encouraging public participation in keeping the city clean.

DSCC Administrator and Freedom Fighter Md Abdus Salam inaugurated the rally and the Cleaning Day programme at Shahbagh.

He said Dhaka could not become a clean and green city without public awareness and community participation. He urged residents to take responsibility for keeping their neighbourhoods clean, adding that proper waste disposal and regular cleaning of drains would help reduce waterlogging and environmental pollution.

“We cannot protect Dhaka unless we change our behaviour,” he said.

The administrator said DSCC had introduced a special monthly crash programme, held on the first Saturday of every month in all 75 wards, focusing on mosquito control, waste management and clearing blocked drains alongside the corporation’s regular cleaning activities.

He called on social, voluntary and political organisations to join the campaign.

He also praised the volunteers of Bidyanondo Foundation for participating in the programme and said more people should come forward to support social and environmental initiatives.
