DNCC’s Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan and Dhaka-18 MP SM Jahangir Hossain were attacked on Sunday by alleged hired attackers during their joint inspection of a site in the Uttarkhan area, where cleaners had earlier come under attack by workers of a garment factory.
The incident took place at a Secondary Transfer Station (STS) in the Rajabari area of Ward No. 46.
In a press release, the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) said the administrator, the lawmaker and other officials went to the site with local police after city cleaners were attacked, earlier in the day.
According to the DNCC, people linked to Neptune Accessories Garments attacked the cleaners while they were on duty at the STS. The earlier attack left 15 to 20 cleaners injured. Four of them suffered serious injuries and were admitted to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital for treatment.
DNCC said an argument started between the cleaners and representatives of the garment factory, prompting the administrator, the MP and the police to go there.
DNCC claimed the hired attackers assaulted the administrator and the MP, leaving several people injured.
Police later brought the situation under control and carried out an operation in the area.
According to the DNCC, three people, including one linked to the factory owner, were detained.
After the inspection, the administrator and the MP went to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital to see the injured cleaners.
