Govt extends private clinic license validity to 2yrs

The government has extended the license issuance and renewal validity for private hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centers, dental clinics, and medical check-up centers from one-two years.

Director (Hospitals and Clinics) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr. Md. Nurul Islam signed an office order on Monday implementing the decision.

According to the order, the decision was taken following directives from the Private Health Management-1 branch under the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The new rule will take effect from the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

Directives and Conditions

The DGHS notification outlined several specific conditions for obtaining and renewing licenses:

Fee Payment: Applicants must submit two years' license fees along with VAT to the government treasury simultaneously and apply through the HSM website.

Environmental Clearance: Obtaining a location clearance or environmental clearance certificate from the Department of Environment is mandatory for receiving new licenses.

Narcotics License: Institutions using narcotic substances must obtain a narcotics license after receiving a new facility license.

Regular Supervision: The Department of Environment and Department of Narcotics Control will monitor their respective updated licenses.

In addition, DGHS officials, Divisional Directors (Health), Civil Surgeons, and Upazila Health and Family Planning Officers will regularly inspect private healthcare institutions. Licenses will be suspended or canceled if any irregularities or non-compliance are found during inspections.
