Summit LNG Terminal resumes gas supply to national grid

Gas supply from the floating LNG terminals in Maheshkhali upazila under Cox's Bazar district has started returning to normal, bringing relief to the nation's severe energy deficit.

Daily gas supply from the Summit LNG Terminal fell by 300 million cubic feet after an LNG cargo vessel returned to Singapore port on August 10, 2026, due to adverse weather and high winds.

The situation improved after a new LNG vessel reached the terminal on August 14. Following operational preparations, gas supply resumed at 4:00AM on Saturday.

The terminal is currently supplying around 460 million cubic feet of gas daily into the national grid. Officials said the volume will gradually reach its normal capacity of 500 million cubic feet per day.

Meanwhile, the Excelerate Energy-operated LNG terminal - which was shut down due to a technical glitch - has partially restored operations. It is currently supplying an average of 300 million cubic feet of gas daily.

Authorities expect complete repair work on the Excelerate terminal to be finished by August 19, 2026, boosting its daily supply back to full capacity at 600 million cubic feet.

Under normal conditions, both terminals combined supply nearly 1,100 million cubic feet of gas daily to the national grid, with Summit providing 500 million and Excelerate supplying 600 million cubic feet.

Currently, the two terminals are supplying a combined total of 760 million cubic feet daily. Officials expect total gas supply to fully normalize to 1,100 million cubic feet per day by August 19.
