Private car, CNG station catch fire after cylinder explosion in Kuril

A private car and parts of a CNG filling station caught fire after the gas cylinder of the vehicle exploded while it was being refuelled at a station near Kuril Chourasta in Dhaka early Sunday.

The explosion sent the cylinder flying into a nearby building, breaking several glass windows. The fire also spread to the filling station, damaging two gas chambers.

The incident took place at Pragati Filling Station Limited in the early hours of Sunday (August 16).

According to police, the gas cylinder of the private car exploded while the vehicle was being refuelled with CNG. The force of the explosion sent the cylinder into the nearby DTX Building, where several glass windows were shattered. The filling station also caught fire at the same time.

Police said people at the station managed to bring the fire under control before firefighters arrived at the scene.

The private car and two gas chambers of the filling station were damaged in the fire. However, no casualties have been reported so far.

Bhatara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mazarul Islam said the private car caught fire moments after another private car hit it from behind while it was being refuelled.

He said staff at the CNG station and firefighters later brought the fire under control.

The OC confirmed that no one was injured in the explosion and fire.
