A worker was stabbed to death at Bengal East Market in the capital’s Sadarghat area on Saturday night. Police arrested 10 people in connection with the incident.
The deceased was identified as Mithun Sardar, 19, son of Russell Sardar of Sadar Upazila in Jhalakathi.
This information was confirmed by Matiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sutrapur Police Station (PS), on Sunday.
The deceased’s cousin Sohag Sardar told the media that Mithun worked and lived at the market. He was stabbed in the chest during an argument with another worker over an unspecified issue.
Mithun was taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital (Mitford) at around 10pm, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
OC Matiur said a case had been filed with the PS and 10 people were arrested.
The incident appeared to have stemmed from previous enmity, the OC added.
The arrestees gave different accounts during interrogation, and the matter was being investigated, the OC said.
