The final of a ward-based drug-awareness football tournament was held in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur on Monday, with organisers promoting the slogan, 'Focus on sports, build a drug-free environment'.
The final took place at the Palashikura Janata High School ground in Poragaon Union, where Ward 4 Burunga defeated Ward 7 Palashikura 3-1 to lift the championship trophy.
The tournament was organised by the Firoz-Liton Sports Foundation and managed by the Urdhwasiri Krira Chakra as part of efforts to raise awareness against drug abuse. Players from all nine wards of Poragaon Union took part.
Former Nalitabari mayor Anwar Hossain, a member of the Sherpur District Football Association's ad hoc committee, attended the final as chief guest. Local BNP leaders, community representatives, and sports organisers were also present. Following the match, guests handed trophies and crests to the winning team. Hundreds of sports enthusiasts watched the final.
