The Amazon Rainforest is the largest tropical rainforest on Earth, spanning nine countries, covering ~40 perw cent of South America, and hosting roughly one-fifth of the world’s land-based species.

It plays a major role in global climate and water systems, storing vast amounts of carbon, producing significant oxygen, helping regulate rainfall, and influencing regional climate patterns.

Deforestation and climate change are driving rapid loss, with about 17% of the forest already destroyed, threatening biodiversity, Indigenous communities, and the long-term stability of the Amazon.
