Man jailed for extorting money

A mobile court has sentenced a man to two years of rigorous imprisonment for extorting money from relatives of accused persons in various cases by posing as a police informant.

The convict was identified as Md Nazir Hossain, 35.
Police arrested Nazir during a drive in the capital’s Paltan area on Friday and later produced him before a mobile court. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations divisin) Niaz Mehedi confirmed the matter on Saturday. Nazir had long been deceiving people by identifying himself as a police source.

He would contact relatives of accused persons in various cases filed in Motijheel and Paltan areas and before the Special Magistrate’s Court.
