
A housewife died after being electrocuted by a rice cooker while cooking rice at her home in Fakirpara area of Pakuria Union in Sherpur Sadar upazila on Saturday evening.
The deceased was identified as Kulsum Akter Bhuli, 40, wife of Furqan Ali, a painter and farmer. She was the mother of two sons and a daughter.
According to locals, Kulsum was cooking rice in the rice cooker around 6:30pm when she suffered an electric shock. Family members rescued her and took her to Sherpur 250-bed District Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead around 7pm.
Dr Tanvir Ahmed, emergency medical officer at the hospital, confirmed her death.
Sherpur Sadar Police Station OC Sohel Rana said electric shock marks were found on her hand. The family sought permission to bury the body without an autopsy, and it was handed over to them following consultation with senior police officials.
Police said legal proceedings are underway and an unnatural death case is being processed.
