Pabna-Dhaka train service set to launch, station renovation work underway

The long-awaited direct train service between Pabna and Dhaka is set to begin by the end of August, fulfilling a longstanding demand of the people of Pabna.
Preparations are underway to make the necessary arrangements for direct train services from Pabna to the capital Dhaka and from Dhaka to Pabna. Residents of the district are excited about the news of the new train service.
For a long time, people in Pabna had been demanding direct rail connectivity with the capital. Now, they are just waiting for that expectation to become a reality. Ahead of the launch of the direct train service, extensive preparations are underway at Pabna and several other stations. Renovation and beautification work is being carried out at some stations, while various passenger facilities are being improved at others. The appearance of the station areas is also changing ahead of the new service.
Although residents of the district have access to rail services through Ishwardi and Chatmohar, people living in Pabna town and the southern parts of the district had long been deprived of rail connectivity. Train services between Pabna and Rajshahi began in 2019, but there was no direct rail connection with Dhaka. That wait is now nearing an end. News that a direct train from Pabna to Dhaka will start operating this August has generated excitement among residents.
Businesspeople, professionals, students and people from various walks of life in Pabna have long demanded direct rail connectivity with the capital. At present, travelling to Dhaka by road takes considerable time and involves significant inconvenience. They hope that the direct train service will make travel easier, more comfortable and relatively hassle-free.
Locals said, It was our long-standing dream to have a train run directly from Pabna to Dhaka. As this dream is now on the verge of becoming a reality, we will no longer have to endure the difficulties of travelling.”
“Even after paying Tk 800 to Tk 1,000 to travel by bus, we have to suffer for hours. The train service is expected to start this month. If it does, it will benefit people from all walks of life in Pabna.”
Final preparations are also underway for the launch of the train service. Necessary measures are being taken for station management. Alongside ensuring passenger safety and services, the relevant infrastructure is being prepared to facilitate train operations. The authorities aim to complete all preparations within the scheduled timeframe and start the service as planned.
Pabna Station In-Charge Mirajul Islam said, “Alhamdulillah, our preparations are going very well. All infrastructural work, including painting, has already been completed. Whatever remains will be finished before the 29th.”
Rafiqul Haque, acting assistant executive engineer of Pakshi Railway, said, “Our preparatory work for the inauguration of the Dhaka-Pabna rail connection is nearing completion. We are trying to complete the work before the probable inauguration on the 29th. Hopefully, we will be able to finish everything on time.”
