Bidisha Ershad arrested

Police have arrested Bidisha Ershad, former wife of late Jatiyo Party chairman and former president Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

She was arrested from her residence in Dhaka’s Gulshan at around 8:30pm on Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Division) Tanvir Ahmed confirmed the matter.

He told The Daily Observer that 55-year-old Bidisha was a warrant-listed accused in a fraud case.

Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Daud Hossain said she had been sentenced in a fraud case filed in 2008, following which the court issued an arrest warrant against her.

Police sources said businessman Mosharraf Hossain Sikder filed the case with Gulshan Police Station in 2008, accusing Bidisha of fraud over the alleged sale of a flat at President Park in Baridhara.

In May this year, a court sentenced Bidisha Siddique to two years in prison and fined her Tk 10,000 in the case. In default of payment, she will have to serve an additional one month in jail.
