BCB declares unapproved district cricket bodies illegal

In a press release, the country’s cricket governing body clarified that any organisation, institution or committee formed by an individual or group without BCB’s approval, recognition or organisational affiliation cannot be considered a BCB-recognised district cricket association.

The BCB constitution provides a specific framework for administering cricket at the district and regional levels. Under Article 6.2, the formation of regional and district cricket associations across the country falls within the BCB’s responsibilities. The board also has jurisdiction over the recognition, administration and supervision of these bodies.

Article 6.4 further assigns the BCB responsibility for recognising the relevant cricket associations and regulating their activities. Therefore, no organisation operating outside the board’s prescribed framework can function as a district cricket association, the BCB said.

Under Article 9.1(b), district cricket associations must also be formed in accordance with BCB-approved policies and regulations. Compliance with the board’s prescribed structure is mandatory for participation in domestic competitions, including the National Cricket League, National Cricket Championship and age-group tournaments.

The BCB said only associations formed in accordance with its constitution and approved by the board will be recognised as “District Cricket Associations.”

Any organisation using the title without such approval will be deemed unconstitutional and illegal, the board warned.
